Performance based videos usually show the band or artist performing throughout the video. This type of category is the best to use when the budget is tight. When doing this type of category the location is important because it has to go alone with the song.
The type of genre that this could fall into could be rock and also Hip hop this would be becuase there are alot of videos which follow bands and artist and show them performing.
An example of a performance based video would be Kings of leon - Use somebody. In this music video its all about the band and they show them playing at gigs and also following them round so it gives the audience a sense of what there life is like.
Narrative Based Video
A narrative based video is a type of music video that tries and tells the audience a story. This would usually involved the artist or band performing at some point in the video. Something that is seen alot with a narrative based video is scenes from a movie that the song has appeared in aswell.
The genre this would usally fall into would be pop and rap and also rock. This would be because alot of artist try and tell stories and show a story in there music video.
An example of this would be 'i dont want to miss a thing' by Aerosmith. This would be becuase the song appears in the movie armageddon produced in 1998 starring Bruce willis. in the music video to i dont want to miss a thing, it relates back to the movie and also shows clips from the film.
Concept based videos
Concept based videos are a video that is based on one idea. This is a category that is not used as much because the audience of music videos demand more. Also with this the video would tend to have been edited alot which would be noticed by the audience.The genre this would usally fall into would be pop song this is becuase it is easy to focus on one subject and do editing to make the video look better.
An example of this would be Ellie Goulding Starry eyed. This would be because the whole concept of the video is this magical land with her and her dancers. Alot of editing work had been put in and makes the video really unusually but at the same time successful
