Final version of the music video

Monday 5th December - Sunday 11th December

As our last week of editing and producing the digipak and advert we had an upper hand by having the digipak complete. To make our advert creative we where coming up with loads of ideas but what stood out the most was to create a hairstyle for each member of the band and have their signatures underneath. This still followed the conventions on showing band identity but we found it to be unique because we were showing a mysterious effect to the band which we have shown them to be throughout the music video.

We finished our music video and made the video into high definition for better quality now all the pre-production work was done and the video, digipak and digipak advert it was time to move on to our evaluations.

Monday 28th November - Sunday 4th December

This week we had finally finished the animation and imported into the video and put it in all the correct places. This meant that we looked at the video and decided something was missing so what we though was to get our lead signer on a plain background and lip sync the song. We did this because we thought we could change the colour correction on final cut express. We also used tissue paper to create confetti which from a high angle we poor over tommy whilst he was performing. We also continued to follow Andrew Goodwin's theory by showing close up of our lead signer.

We then thought about how we could use Laura Malvey's theory and show voyeuristic images of the lead signers girlfriend and what we did was a panning shot from the bottom of her to the top. When we were using final cut express we thought it would be good to fade that clip in with a clip of the lead signer performing on the plain background. So this is using the conventions of Laura Mulvey's theory but at the same time we were playing on it.

Monday 21st November - Sunday 27th November

This week we started on our digipak advert, we decided for this we would use a house style theme because everything would then match from our digipak and our digipak advert and this would be easily recognisable for the audience. So we started by having the plain background and similar style sharp lines coming from the side nd using the same text but just enlarging it to make it more recognisable.

With ouranimation we were making good progress and everything was coming together. we decided that we were going to make a second part to the animation where my animated character would take the lead signers girlfriend of her feet and run away with her. This was done because it would make more sense to have more animation and break it up throughout themusicvideo and also we though it would add a slight bit of humor to our video.

Monday 14th November - Sunday 20th November

At the start of this week, we were looking through what we had in our video and we decided we needed some more shots of our lead signer on his own and with his girlfriend. So the lead signer, Myself and Louise went off and filmed some shots in a park of them two being joyful and happy and then some where they argue and fall out. whilst we did this Jazmine carried on with the animation and bringing it together and putting the animation in the music video. Harvey carried on producing the digipak and made quick progress which meant all we had to do was take band pictures to insert onto the digipak.

During the week we got together as a group and toke pictures of the band members on different days when they where free and so where we. By the end of the week we hada complete digipak and was ready to move onto our digipak advert.

Monday 7th November - Sunday 13th November

In this week we carried on editing the video and making progress with the animation, we also started to produce our digipak, we started that now because we thought it would be a good idea to get a head start on the digipak so then we would not have to be rushing with time to produce our advert.

With the animation we were having problems getting use to making the animation and editing the animation and importing it into final cut express. We continued to put parts together and make the animation of the boy and the girl with a heart falling apart.

Monday 31st October - Sunday 6th November

This week we continued to edit our work and bring the video together. As a group we decided to do an animation to go with our video. We decided to do this becuase we thought it would be something unique to our video. So the group started to draw out the animation so we could scan them through to the computer and start using Photoshop to change the colours of the of each aspect of the animation. For the rest of the week we carried on editing our video and producing the animation.

Monday 24th October - Sunday 30th October

In this week we came back and started putting the footage we had from the previous and putting our work all together and we slowly but surely by using certain effects such as fade in and fade out and colour correction the effects were making video start to look good.

After this we continued to edit what we had to see if any more filming was to be done for the music video.

Monday 17th October - Sunday 23rd October

At the start of the week we got our camera and tripod and we all went up to London with our lead signer to go and film some shots. We got the train to London Victoria and the minute we got there we thought it would be a good location to do some filming of the lead signer and his girlfriend standing there holding each other whilst everyone passes them. With this we did the lead signers girlfriend doing the same with myself we decided we again would use this for fast pace editing to make the clips shorter and this would follow the conventions of music videos of having short quick shot in the video.

From London victoria we took the underground to get to Camden Town. Here we took alot of shots of our lead signer walking through Camden lip syncing to the song. These shots were successful as it gave the song a nice scene setting to it. We also continued doing shots of the lead signer and his girlfriend walking through Camden and then did the same with myself and the lead singers girlfriend.

Monday 10th October - Sunday 16th October

At the start of this week again we went back and uploaded all the footage we took from the previous week. We looked through the clips and decided on which ones we like and could be a success in the music video. We added in some clips to the video and decided that we needed some clips of the lead signers girlfriend with another man, we done this because we thought we could use the fade in fade out tool on final cut express and do some fast past editing to show the difference between the two.

After doing these shots we went back to our computer and uploaded the footage, we started putting little bits together in the song but had some many gaps which we new we could go and do some great shots in a wider environment such as London. So has a group we came up with a plan of where to go and what to do and that would be what we where to do the week coming.

Monday 3rd October - Sunday 9th October

At the start of this week what we did first was upload all the footage we had from the previous week, once we done this we were able to clear the camera and leave us with more space on the camera to go and film alot more shot. When we first uploaded all the footage we had we decided to play around with what we had and see if everything fitted. We were happy with the shots from the garage of the lead signer and the band but where not so keen on the shots of the lead signer just signing and seeing his lips. once we choose certain clips we like we worked out what was the next stage to go out and film and looked back on out storyboards.

Before we went of to film we went to clean up the garage and put away the materials we used as it was a friends garage we were using, we all went as a group to do this as it was a team effort putting it together so we all went to put it away and clean up.

The next stage for us in this week getting our lead signer and our actress to jazmines house to film some shots there. The shots we filmed there included shots of them being a happy couple on the sofa laughing and joking and kissing and cuddling up. Then we also when we was there decided we should do shots of them arguing cause the lead signer sees her texting another male. From there he throws the phone to the chair and storms out the house. all this together consisted of shot-reverse-shots, over the shoulder shots, medium shots and close up shots.

Also we filmed upstairs in Jazmines house of shots of our lead signer and in the bed with his girlfriend as he lip synced the song whist she was sleeping we did this to show how he knows she has ben unfaithful but hides it for her so a shot like this could represent the love he has for her.

Monday 26th September - Sunday 2nd October

In this week we started to do alot more filiming, we spent most of our time at the gargage filming the band playing and getting a mixture of different shots. Before we were able to start filming we had some technical difficutls with some of the lights that we had put up where the bulbs had blown, so before filming we put up another set of lights around the band to have the effect that we first intended on doing.

When filming during the week we thought it would be a good idea to get single shot of every band member performing to the song. We did this because when though we would be able to have a number of different shot which we could include in the video and put them together and have some fast past editing between them.


We also did alot of takes filming the whole band in a medium shot perfroming, we did alot of takes because at certain parts of the song there were issues with certain band members at certain points of the song, but we kept the footage rolling to get the most out of what we had.


We also got close up shots of our lead signer performing, we did this to following Andrew Goodwin's theory of having close up shots of the lead signer to show band identity.

In the week we experienced some problems with setting of the garage and the lighting, this meant that we had to use some of the time we had to work around and change certain things in order to show of the band and the scenery the best we could.

Monday 19th September - Sunday 25th September

In this week it was our first time we went out filming. What we did first was we filmed our lead signer, lip syncing to some of the verses of the song. When we did this we just filmed close up shots of the lead-signer. We also did the same for but saying 'I love you' we did this because one of the lines of lyrics in the song goes by saying 'three whole words, eight letters late', so we may use this shot to fade in when the lyrics are being played.

This week we also went and set up the design for the garage. This toke around three hours to do. what was involved was setting out the stage for the band and also getting the equipment we are using into the correct places. We also put up the lights above the stage, we did this so the lights shined down on the band so they stand out. We also set up other lights around the whole scene to create the emotional scene.
